The quick answer

Which loan comparison site should you use?

Credit N Lending, Credible, LendingTree, NerdWallet, and Experian all help borrowers compare personal loan options without lending money themselves. Most are free for borrowers because lenders or partners pay them. They differ in credit pull type, how many lenders contact you, lender network, and loan range. Credit N Lending is a personal loan marketplace that uses a soft pull to show potential offers, charges borrowers nothing for its matching service, and supports requests from $100 up to $50,000 with advertised APRs of 2% to 35.99% for eligible applicants. Actual terms depend on the lender.

A larger advertised maximum is not necessarily a better fit. A service that lists a $250,000 partner product may also have very different minimums, qualifications, and fees for that product. Do not compare it as though it were the same loan as a smaller request.

Know the process

What is a personal loan marketplace?

A personal loan marketplace helps connect a borrowing request with participating lenders or lending partners. A comparison website may also publish articles and lender information before asking you to enter personal details.

A personal loan generally provides a lump sum repaid in scheduled installments. The marketplace helps you shop or find a match; the lender determines the terms and whether to approve and fund it.

  1. 01

    Understand the service

Decide whether you want research, preliminary rates, or a matching request.

  2. 02

    Read before sharing

Check the credit authorization and who may receive your information.

  3. 03

    Assess the result

A match or prequalification is a potential next step, not final approval.

  4. 04

    Compare the lender's terms

Review APR, net proceeds, fees, payment, and total repayment before accepting.

The five services

How each personal loan comparison service fits

These are editorial use cases, not ranked awards or claims that we tested loan approval. Each platform can be useful for a different shopping preference.

Credit N Lending

A guided matching route for your borrowing purpose

Credit N Lending is a free personal loan marketplace, not a direct lender. It does not fund loans, set rates, or make approval decisions. Borrowers explore offers from lending partners using a soft pull, with no marketplace fee and no obligation to accept an offer. We may receive compensation from participating partners. A marketplace result does not show every lender or guarantee several side-by-side offers. Advertised requests range from $100 to $50,000; actual terms depend on the lender.

Check before proceeding

A match is a next step for lender review. Check the offered amount, any lender fee, verification requirements, and total repayment.

Primary sources: Credit N Lending: personal loans and advertised request range · Credit N Lending: rates and terms · Credit N Lending: lending policy and marketplace role.

Credible

Prequalified rate shopping with an explained contact policy

Credible brings preliminary rates from participating lenders into a comparison experience. Its FAQ explains when lender contact can occur, including a network-partner exception if no prequalified rate is found. That makes it useful to examine when follow-up matters to you. Its published personal-loan disclosures describe potential options, rather than a commitment to lend. Check the specific lender and product behind a large loan amount or an advertised low APR.

Check before proceeding

The general disclosure and an individual lender listing have different scopes. A large maximum belongs to a particular partner, not every lender.

Primary sources: Credible: costs, credit checks and lender-contact policy · Credible: personal-loan general disclosures · Credible: lender-specific personal-loan amounts and terms.

LendingTree

Shopping across lender choices with lender follow-up

LendingTree connects borrowers with lenders and publishes detailed product comparisons. It can suit a borrower who wants to shop across lenders and is comfortable managing their follow-up. Its general FAQ describes matching with up to five lenders; that is a matching description, not a limit on calls, messages, or offer variations. Use the specific personal-loan listing and the final lender disclosure to assess the available amount, fees, and repayment period.

Check before proceeding

An initial marketplace inquiry and a direct application to a listed lender are different steps. Check each lender's credit authorization.

Primary sources: LendingTree: matching process and credit inquiries · LendingTree: personal-loan comparison page and lender disclosures · LendingTree: free marketplace service and lender relationships.

NerdWallet

Borrowing research alongside a loan-matching tool

NerdWallet combines educational comparisons with a personal-loan matching tool. A borrower can read about products before requesting potential matches. Its help center explains that prequalification uses a soft inquiry, while the lender controls any later application and final decision. Follow-up can come from lenders, so the research experience should not be confused with a promise of no contact. Read both the matching explanation and the selected lender's terms.

Check before proceeding

A published starting APR and an estimated match are not locked rates. A full lender application is a separate step.

Primary sources: NerdWallet: how personal-loan matching works · NerdWallet: personal-loan prequalification, advertised amounts and starting APR · NerdWallet: information sharing and lender follow-up.

Experian

Offers matched to a credit profile, with product-specific inquiry features

Experian offers loan matching alongside its credit tools. Its loan pages describe options matched to a borrower's credit profile, with terms supplied by lending partners. Selected offers carry the No Ding Decline label. The important distinction is what happens after initial approval or acceptance: a hard inquiry can still follow, even if later verification fails. Check the label and its conditions rather than assuming that every displayed loan carries that protection.

Check before proceeding

The advertised maximum and the No Ding Decline feature do not apply uniformly to every product. Read the selected offer's conditions.

Our worked example

The best comparison is the actual offer

Here is what three percentage points change on the same $10,000 loan over 36 months. These are hypothetical fixed-rate, no-fee loans, not quotes from any company in the table. With no fees in this model, the interest rate equals the APR.

For a $10,000 no-fee loan over 36 months, modeled total repayment is $11,957.15 at 12% APR and $12,479.52 at 15% APR, a $522.37 difference.
Original Credit N Lending calculation. The table provides the same figures in text.
Illustrative offers: same principal, term, and fee assumptions
Offer detailExample AExample B
Amount received$10,000$10,000
APR12%15%
Term36 months36 months
Monthly payment$332.14$346.65
Total repayment$11,957.15$12,479.52
Interest paid$1,957.15$2,479.52

$522.37 more over the same payoff period.

Method: monthly payment = P × r / [1 − (1 + r)−n], where P = $10,000, r = annual rate / 12, and n = 36. Totals use unrounded payments; actual final payments can differ because of rounding or lender conventions. Origination fees and late fees are excluded.

Fees can change the comparison too. A 5% fee deducted from a $10,000 loan leaves $9,500 in cash. Compare offers that meet the same cash need, using both APR and the written repayment schedule. CFPB explains why APR differs from the interest rate.

A practical checklist

How to choose a loan comparison site

01

Start with the amount and purpose

Check whether the listed products fit your need. A debt-consolidation loan may pay creditors directly; another product may have purpose restrictions.

02

Choose a shopping process you understand

Research pages, side-by-side rate displays, and lender matching are different experiences. Read what the form promises to return.

03

Check credit and contact consent

Find the inquiry type and follow-up policy before sharing details. Recheck if you move to a lender's full application.

04

Use the same offer assumptions

Compare equal net cash, term, APR, fees, and total repayment. A lower monthly payment can mean a longer, more expensive loan.

Our take

Use a marketplace to make a borrowing decision clearer, then judge the lender's offer on its own merits. Credit N Lending is one route to explore a matched option for your purpose. Compare any response with other available offers, your bank or credit union, and alternatives that avoid new debt. The brand name alone cannot establish the lowest cost.

How can I tell whether two comparison sites show the same lender option?

More results do not necessarily mean more distinct choices. If the same lender appears through two services, record the legal lender name, product, quote date, amount deposited, APR, fees and term. Two records can describe the same product, while different amounts or dates can make apparently similar quotes hard to compare.

Ask the lender whether an existing quote is still valid before starting a second full application. Check the credit authorization again if you move to a different application step. Do not count a repeated listing as an additional approval or assume that another marketplace will return a different lender.

Use this as a shopping worksheet, not a claim that any specific pair of the services above shares lenders. Their networks and individual responses can change. Compare the final written terms on the same cash need and repayment period.

Source: CFPB: review loan disclosures when shopping around. Illustrations and shopping checklists are Credit N Lending explanations, not lender offers.

Should I count the same lender on two comparison sites as two different offers?

Not automatically. Check the lender and product, quote date, cash proceeds, APR, fees and term. The same lender may appear more than once, and a repeated listing is not a separate approval. Ask whether a quote remains valid before starting another full application or authorizing another credit check.

Common questions, clear answers

Loan comparison site FAQs

What is a loan comparison site?

A loan comparison site helps you compare borrowing options. Some publish lender information; others use an application or prequalification form to match your details with participating lenders. The company operating the site may not be the lender that makes the loan.

What is a personal loan marketplace?

A personal loan marketplace connects people seeking a loan with participating lenders or lending partners. Its matching process may identify potential options, but the lender controls final verification, approval, pricing, and funding.

Is Credit N Lending a lender?

No. Credit N Lending is an online marketplace that matches requests to lending partners. It does not fund loans or make lender approval decisions.

What is the best loan comparison site?

Choose the service that fits your amount, preferred research or matching process, credit-check requirements, and contact preferences. Then compare actual written offers on APR, lender fees, payment, term, and total repayment. This page does not assign a universal winner.

Are loan comparison sites free to use?

The five comparison services described here present their rate-check or matching services as free to borrowers. That does not make a resulting loan free: the lender may charge interest, origination fees, or other disclosed charges. Optional subscriptions are separate.

Will comparing personal loans hurt my credit score?

The initial comparison processes described here use soft inquiries. A later lender application, approval, or acceptance may involve a hard inquiry. Read the credit authorization at each step, including when you leave a marketplace for a lender.

Can I use more than one loan comparison site?

Yes. Check whether each step is a soft inquiry before proceeding. Different marketplaces can share lenders, so using several sites does not guarantee additional unique offers. Do not assume separate personal-loan hard inquiries will be combined for scoring.

Does one application guarantee multiple loan offers?

No. A matching request can return no option, one option, or several options, depending on your details and available partners. A lender match is not approval, and a marketplace does not necessarily cover every lender in the market.

Why do lenders call after I compare loans?

Your consent may allow participating lenders or partners to contact you about a request. Contact practices differ. Credible explains specific follow-up limits and exceptions; NerdWallet explains that lenders may contact applicants directly. Read the current consent and privacy language before submitting.

Can I compare loans with bad or fair credit?

Some marketplaces serve a range of credit profiles, but availability and price depend on the responding lender and your full application. Income, current debt, the amount requested, state, and other factors can matter. A low credit score does not establish that any particular offer will be available.

Can I request a $100 loan through Credit N Lending?

Credit N Lending advertises requests from $100 to $50,000. A requested amount is not a promise that a participating lender offers that amount in your state. Review the responding lender's actual minimum, fees, and repayment terms, and consider non-loan alternatives for a small expense.

Is the lowest advertised APR the rate I will get?

No. A headline minimum may require particular credit qualifications, repayment terms, automatic payments, or other conditions. A platform's published range is not your quote. Compare personalized terms for the same amount and repayment period.

What is the difference between a matching result and loan approval?

A match or prequalification identifies a potential borrowing path using preliminary information. Approval comes from the lender after its required checks. Funding can require further verification and signed documents, even after an initial positive result.

How do I compare loan offers with origination fees?

Compare the APR and total repayment, and check the net amount you receive after any deducted fee. A $10,000 loan with a 5% fee deducted delivers $9,500 before any other deductions. If you need $10,000 in cash, the same stated principal does not meet the same need.

Does Experian No Ding Decline mean there can never be a hard inquiry?

No. The feature applies to loans carrying the label and has conditions. Experian states that initial approval or acceptance may result in a hard inquiry, including when a borrower cannot complete final verification. Check the selected product's disclosure.

Is Credit N Lending affiliated with the other sites compared here?

This editorial comparison does not establish an affiliation, endorsement, or lender-network relationship with Credible, LendingTree, NerdWallet, or Experian. Their names and logos identify the services discussed.

How we built this comparison

Sources, scope, and update policy

We checked official product, FAQ, disclosure, and terms pages on October 17, 2026. Each table cell links to its supporting source. Where no uniform platform-wide ceiling or contact limit is published, we say so rather than invent one. The platform order is for navigation, not a performance ranking.

Lender-specific examples are not platform-wide promises. Credit N Lending information is based on owner-confirmed terms. Planned review: quarterly, and sooner when a material product change is identified.

The repayment example and illustrations use the stated assumptions. They are not applicant outcomes, partner quotes, or evidence of approval rates. Send corrections through our contact page.
